I just recently moved. As I was moving, I was very unhappy because I hated the house I was moving into. I knew exactly what I wanted to do, but, I am only renting, and my landlord was not letting me paint or make any changes. I asked a few times, but, the answer was always no.

As the months went on, I decided to take another approach. I put everything I wanted to do on a poster and showed him. He was so impressed, he not only let me do the living room, he is letting me do the whole house.

The other day, I got a call from him and I was thinking great, he changed his mind. Well, I was wrong, he told me that he has 10 other rental properties that he is having problems renting because they are beginning to show there age, and he asked me to come up with a plan for each one. Let’s just say I was shocked.
So here’s what I did. First I set the mood I wanted in the room. I tend to go more warm, earthy tones. My plan was to have an old world, comfortable feeling. Well sort of old world meets mid century world.

Picture this – my living Room is more long than wide, with a corner gas fireplace. The living room opens to the Dining room and Kitchen. The Fire Place wall only is painted Chocolate Brown as an accent wall. All the other walls in the living room I choose a color called Sand Dunes. It’s a warm sort of tan color with a BIT of grey. While I had the paint out, I carried that same color to all the walls in the Kitchen/Dining room except for the wall that the cabinets/sink etc. are on. For those I choose a color called Canyon Clay. It looks FABULOUS. Each room has an accent color which is what I wanted, but, they still blend really well together.

Next, I installed crown molding to bring down the height of the ceiling and give it a sort of aged look. Then I added an area rug to soften the hard wood floors.
OK time to put everything together (My favorite part). As I was putting my furniture back, I noticed it just seemed to be missing something. That spark wasn’t there.
So I added a table, light for that table, a floor lamp, some caged candle holders for the walls, vases for the fireplace mantle and one picture. I then threw a few gold, cream and cranberry pillows on the couch and chair.

I was surprised at how these few changes really changed the whole feel of my living room. It was like coming home to a whole new place and I really thought I would have and to spend allot more than I did to get the quality I wanted. I redid my whole living room for over $400.00. What a deal!

About Me. :  My name is Melissa.  I am 42 years young, and a single mom of a little little prize.  She will be starting her Sophmore year in College.
